The pale blue dot
The inspiration behind our blue logo is a quote from astronomer Carl Sagan. While on its journey out of the solar system, Carl wanted the space probe Voyager 1 to photograph the Earth from a great distance. This photo, taken over 6 billion kilometres away, shows the Earth as a tiny blue dot. Sagan captioned this popular photograph from 1990:
